Day 2 - Anchorage to Homer
Drive along the Turnagain Arm in Cook Inlet, home to one of the largest bore tides in the world, looking for Beluga Whales. Visit the Wildlife Conservation Center whose mission is to provide refuge for orphaned, injured, and ill animals. This is one of the most scenic drives in Alaska! Many stops for scenic viewing and points of interest. (B/L)
Day 3 - Homer/Katmai
Fly from Homer to Katmai National Park or Lake Clark (based on weather) to see Grizzly Bears. You will hopefully catch a glimpse of the bears during a 1.5-mile hike through braided rivers and meadows. Time also allows for a stop at the Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitor Center. (B/L
Day 4 - Homer/Kachemak Bay
Take a 30-minute boat cruise to Kachemak Bay State Park, accessible only by boat. Hike with a local naturalist through 3 distinct ecosystems: the marine environment, coastal forest, and glacial moraine. In the glacier valley you will view an immense glacier dropping into the lake. Continue the journey by kayak, with sounds of moving ice filling the valley past icebergs of all sizes. (This is a full 8-hour day that includes a 2.5-mile hike and 3 hours of kayaking). (B/L)
Day 5 - Homer to Seward; Optional Helicopter Excursion
Drive the scenic road to the picturesque city of Seward. Have some fun with marine mammals at the Alaska Sea Life Center. Many stops for scenic viewing and points of interest including a stop at Exit Glacier and the opportunity to hike the Harding Ice Field trail (4.5-mile round trip hike). (B/L)
OPTIONAL EXCURSION - $495.00 per person to be paid at the time of booking
Take a helicopter flight up to a glacier and then dogsled rides on top of the glacier: Take off in one of our helicopters and find yourself landing at dog camp atop an ancient glacier. A team of sled dogs anxiously awaits to pull you across perfect white snow. Dog sled tours on Godwin Glacier are some of the most fun you can have in Alaska! After your sled ride, cuddle our lovable puppies, take pictures of the beautiful Alaskan scenery, and talk with your Alaskan musher about his best trail stories. We have all the gear and equipment you’ll need for your Alaskan dog sledding experience; you just need to bring your camera. This is a 1.5-hour tour that includes 15 minutes of flight seeing and an unforgettable dog sled ride.
Day 6 - Seward/Kenai/Anchorage
This morning you are going out for a 9-hour nature cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park. You will be watching for puffins, sea otters, humpback whales, sea lions, and cormorants on an up close and personal view of a tidewater glacier in Northwestern Fjord. These types of glaciers calve directly into the ocean. For those who may not be up for such a lengthy cruise, you may opt for a shorter, 3-hour cruise in the calm waters of the bay followed by a dog sled tour (or similar activity). In the evening all guests will enjoy dinner and a scenic train ride back to Anchorage on the Gold Star Dome train. (B/L/D)
Day 7 - Anchorage to Denali/Healy
Today you make the drive to Denali National Park, the home of Mount McKinley. Frequent stops will be made including Talkeetna for lunch and a Talkeetna River two-hour float trip. On a narrated excursion of this glacier fed waterway, you will see spectacular vista and wildlife habitats. Your guide will share tales of the river’s history and describe the flora, fauna, and scenery along the way. Possible viewing of bears, eagles, fish, beavers, moose, fox, and waterfowl often enhance the journey. Join the mighty Susitna River for the loop back to Talkeetna. (B/L)
Day 8 - Denali
Venture deep into Denali National Park by motorcoach. This adventure will allow you an in-depth glimpse of this spectacular area to include a picnic lunch. (B/L)
Day 9 - Denali to Talkeetna
Today’s plans are dictated by Mother Nature! If weather permits, you may take a flight to see the tallest peak in North America. *Two options here: land on a glacier and walk around or take a pressurized plane up to the peak for a view of the 20,322’ summit from inside the plane. You must notify the AAA office 30 days prior of your selection to guarantee your selection.
At the end of the day, drive to the quaint town called Talkeetna for time on your own. On a clear day Talkeetna boasts one of the best views of Mount McKinley. Unwind during a farewell dinner after an eventful adventure in Alaska! (B/D)
